Mission Statement
Inspire as many people as possible to value and practice a physically, emotionally and socially healthy life-style.
Our History
"In 1984, with the Rhythm and Moves curriculum and a promise that every child would have a piece of equipment I approached a couple of the schools that were advertising for an educator. Now, 25 years later, Rhythm and Moves’ has over 150 schools, and almost 100 educators," Sharon Boggs, Rhythm and Moves Founder. In 2002 Rhythm and Moves began a music program which follows the same philosophies and principals that the physical education program has been guided by.
We begin each year with a two day conference; offering over 30 different workshops designed to give our staff information and teaching tools that can be integrated into their lessons. The lessons that are provided to the instructors implementing the Rhythm and Moves, Inc. curriculum include a variety of teaching styles. These are included to aid the teacher in finding ways to encourage critical thinking and involve a variety of learning styles during their lessons. We value the diversity and wealth of knowledge our educators bring to our program. It is important that our staff is able to express their individual styles and philosophies as they work with the schools and students.
Our philosophy includes having enough equipment for every child to participate at the same time. We use flag belts for team identification as well as to encourage safety when students play games like tag or flag football. Pedometers and stop watches are ways to include technology and provide extrinsic motivation to exercise during class. We also use these items as a means to incorporate cross curricular activities. In addition to these pieces of equipment which are provided to every educator we also supply additional equipment and teaching supplies.
Our program continually evolves to include the personality and dialogue from individual teachers, students, parents and communities. We recognize it is one of the roles of our company to share the wealth of knowledge that, as a company, we have acquired through our 25 years of working with dedicated physical and music education specialists. As educators we are compelled to find the means to pass along best practices to our colleagues. As long as we are providing physical and music education we will stay focused on what is best for our students and we will continue to look for ways to provide that information to our communities and fellow educators.
Our Philosophy
People have the capability of learning. Children like to learn. Children also like physical activity, but need to be motivated to do so constructively. One of the roles of the schools should be to find and provide motivations to learn. Students should be provided sucdcessful situations through movement so that they learn to enjoy physical activity. They should also be shown how and why to become physically fit and healthy.
At the elementary level, the physical education program should concentrate on providing successfull situations through movement, so that the children will learn the fundamentals of movement and develop a liking for physical activity.
At the Jr. High level, students are moving from concrete to abstract thinking. Instructional strategies and curricular content are directed toward health and the individual interests of the students, allowing them to draw thier own conclusions as they discover the best way to become and stay healthy.
